Pillars Child care in the News
The Pillars Child Care (Child Care) was recently featured in a Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) story! The piece highlighted resident volunteers and what makes the Child Care extra special. Thank you to MPR for featuring our community.
Bridging generations through Connections
Located on the first floor of the Pillars of Prospect Park (Pillars) senior living community, the child care offers something truly special—a space where generations come together to form meaningful connections. Residents of our senior living community have the opportunity to volunteer in the classroom, tailoring their involvement to their own schedule and interests. Whether it’s a one-time visit or a regular commitment, the interactions create heartwarming moments for both all participants.
Our intergenerational programs bring residents and children together daily and weekly for enriching activities. From playtime and story reading to music and hands-on learning, these experiences are the highlight of our community for many. Monthly events, like visits from baby goats and llamas, special musical performances, banana split socials, and more, add an extra touch of magic to our shared memories.
The benefits of these programs extend far beyond smiles and laughter. Research shows that intergenerational interactions—like those fostered at The Pillars—help reduce social isolation, boost self-esteem, and enhance overall well-being. These connections build strong social and emotional skills for children, creating a foundation for empathy and understanding that will last a lifetime.
Strong Program Partnerships
At the Pillars, our programs are made even stronger through partnerships with incredible community organizations - MacPhail Center for Music, The Science Crew, Northern Clay Center, Super Stretch Yoga, and the Alzheimer’s Poetry Project. Together, we create a vibrant and enriching environment where every interaction matters.
We’re proud to be a place where generations come together to share, grow, and thrive—one connection at a time! If you’d like to learn more about volunteering in the classroom or join us to for an intergenerational program or special event at the Pillars, please reach out to Erin Erdahl.
